Left Behind

Statement

Rodney Smith is not attracted to new and shiny things and places as a commercial, magazine, or travel photographer would be. Rather, used, rusty, and organic subject matter intrigue him. A fascination with the use and industrialization of our world and the effects people leave on it drives him to continue to make more images. But most of all he is interested in the stories which are told by the tools, objects and places people come in contact with along life’s journey. Rodney sees one thing in common between doors leading to 10 foot drops, rusty tool racks, beat up 50 gallon drums, paint smeared concrete, a string holding the bathroom stall door shut, four circular objects lining a wall from small to large, and a lonesome left hand glove. They all beg the viewer to ask, “Why are they left this way?”

Rodney hopes you have as much fun coming up with your own answer as he did creating the images for you.
