I am proud to announce a solo exhibition sponsored by the City of Columbia and Schepis Louisiana Artist Museum on Friday, April 16th, 4-6pm. The works on display are a sampling from the various mediums I’ve learned while working towards a Bachelors of Fine Art in Photography from Louisiana Tech University (2006-2010).

Editing & Printing

I’ve been doing a lot of editing & printing for my next solo show on Friday, April 16th from 4-6pm in Columbia, Louisiana @ The Schepis Museum. You’re invited by the way! This is a special show that exhibits my best work from throughout my college years. The museum is displaying not only my photographs, but also paintings, sculptures, drawings, and photo/drawing collage. On room is sectioned off to display my Sr. year-long project of documentary images about South Side Monroe. I hope to see you there. If for some reason you can’t make it, the work is on display March 26th-April 25th, open M-F and by appointment 318-649-9931. Spring weather ENERGIZES me! Solo Exhibition in Minden, LA

My most recent solo exhibition, South Side Monroe, was at Easley Fine Arts Gallery in Minden, LA. It showcased a series of photographs about current black culture in North Louisiana during Black History month. Refreshments, warm conversation, and fun times were enjoyed by all who came to the opening on February 25th. I would like to send a special thank you to Kerry Easley, gallery owner, and Pattie Odom, Minden Main Street Manager, for promoting and hosting this special event. It was an honor to have so many friends making the trek from Louisiana Tech University to see the display. Thanks for hanging around after it was over while I made the video. The work will be displayed in the gallery for another 2 weeks if you would like to see it in person.

Escape Vs. Embrace

We all love to escape to the alternative reality of popular cinema on occasion. If you don’t, you should have your DNA checked out! But it seems that many people almost become addicted to this world of TV and happy endings and forget that life is happening all around us.

Recent films, The Soloist, Crash, and The Pursuit of Happiness all encountered a hesitant embrace from many viewers for this very reason. They each portray major, real life conflicts about poverty and racism and leave no cutely packaged Hollywood ending to resolve them. It is surprising to me that a society who fully embraces relativity on issues such as religion and morality, struggle with the lack of clear-cut answers to the struggles depicted so clearly in these films. They don’t because there is no clear-cut, cutely packaged answer to all these questions. They are complicated yet life-altering. I cry out to a society gluttons for escapism to engage in the world around them. Embrace the pains of life, play in the leaves of current season, and more richly savor the joys of life because of it.
