Bio/Contact

Rodney Smith spent his early years on the rich soil of a family ranch and surrounding farmland in rural Winnsboro, Louisiana. His love for skateboarding led him to documentary photography and resulted in the completion of a BFA in photography at Louisiana Tech University. Smith is the recipient of Best of Show, in The Spring Show Off Exhibition juried by Jess Schrom and has been exhibited throughout the state in galleries such as Easley Fine Art, and Schepis Museum.  He is currently working on an audio series to accompany his photographic documentary work titled South Side Monroe, about a predominantly African American community near his hometown that deals with issues of economic recession and his own struggle to see through presumptions of his sheltered childhood of this “other” culture. Smith documents his journey & searches for the underlining truths about life’s hardships among his local friends yet a seemingly foreign culture.
